The last open lead on our family’s story was closed last week. Detective Troy Dugal, San Diego Homicide Division, woke me up early Monday morning to ask me a few more questions, and inform me that the last open lead on our case was resolved. The case is not closed, but there were no open leads for him to follow up.

We were currently in negotiations with CBS, NBC and whoever else wanted to air our story, but the outcome was slow. All the while, most of the family and friends were just going through the motions. We’re all going through such tough times in this economy, and this situation is simply a constant reminder of how overwhelming life can be. Nobody, when they’re young and dreaming, ever puts this type of situation as even the slightest blip on the horizon. Now how do you deal with this, and everything else?

Thankfully, though there were talks of others companies to help us keep our story in the media, the TV show Disappeared sprung into action. They will arrive the week of September 13th to interview Det. Dugal and Lt. Brugos, the 14th for my mom and I, and the remainder of the week for the Aranda’s and various friends.

Detective Dugal, who has personally vested himself in our family’s case I feel, is chomping at the bit for more leads to follow up on and really wanting the media to stir up the waters. Chris at the FBI, Dugal, Martinez, and crew drastically want to solve this mystery. How does a family of FOUR just vanish? I guess we’re all in the same boat, trying to make heads or tails of it all.

The silver lining in it all being that Joey’s oldest son, about to turn 14 the first week of September, continues to maintain a 4.0, lead violin chair, plays piano, and his uncle is his biggest fan rivaled only by Grandma Suzie.

All in all, I really just wish that the phone would ring, I would hear my bro’s voice, and though I’d wanna ring his neck for all the stuff we’ve all been through, my biggest fears would just leave me. Life is moving forward, but many of us are simply stuck somewhere back in February, searching for answers, hoping for a miracle.

Six months have passed and we are no closer today than we were six days from the start of our investigation. The Detectives and the FBI are chasing down leads as fast as they come in and really want to solve this case. I know that the detectives really want to get our story back out there to help prompt some leads for them to follow up.

The AMW show prompted around 13 leads in which Dugal and his team went through them in a few days. We’ve had leads from Michigan to El Paso, North Carolina, Susanville, and various spots in mainland Mexico and the Baja Peninsula. None of which panned out.

My mom has been running the missing persons flyer ( printable from our site) in a handful of newspapers in Mexico since June with only a couple of leads.

My friend who went to Mexico three times is now chasing down some of his own data from his Baja adventures.

North County Times, San Diego Union Tribune, CBS, ABC in San Diego have done a six month follow up trying to keep our family’s disappearance in the public’s eye.

The Steve Wilkos show does a short excerpt called “Back on the Beat” and has offered to put something together for us to try and help.

One of the staff writer’s for People Magazine has contacted us through the site and is pitching our story to the power’s that be. We may have some support from them which could help I’m sure.

A few weeks ago my mom let J—- take whatever he wanted from his dad’s house. This situation is tough enough to deal with as an adult, let alone have to deal with it as a 14 year old teenager about to start high school and wondering what happened to his dad. He took all Joey’s surfboards, ipod, music (he really wanted his dad’s music). He wants his room to done in the hardwood flooring that was at the house, so we gave them that too. We sold the appliances and gave them the money as well. Earlier this week I went down to Joey’s house and met with Summer’s family to help remove some of Joey & Summer’s remaining items.

Please remember to pray for all the family members when you make your prayers. Tracy, Summer’s sister, is having a tough time dealing with the stress, as is my dad Patrick and of course my mom Susan. My heart was breaking as I watched Blanche, Summer’s Mom, almost completely in tears as she was moving out some of her daughter’s items on Tuesday. The pressure of it all just becomes additional stress, worry and concern that’s added to normal everyday life, and it’s beginning to take a toll on the family.

Finally, I just want to remind everyone that we are just a normal American family like everyone else here just trying to get by and find our loved ones. This could be your family that’s missing. I don’t wish this situation on my worst enemy. If you know anything, or think you remember anything pertaining to our family’s disappearance, PICK UP THE PHONE or EMAIL the website. We simply do not know what small detail law enforcement needs to crack this case. Everything little bit helps.

After the America’s Most Wanted aired there were around 20 leads or so that the Detectives and FBI were quick to follow up on. Nothing substantial ever really panned out. This seems to be the norm on our family’s case for some reason.

My mom, Susan Blake, has again posted revised Missing Persons Posters in various Baja Newspapers again this month hoping for someone to contact us through the website or phones. We have had a few leads come out of it.

For everyone emailing and contacting us through the website, we want you to know that we greatly appreciate your love, prayers, and support. We, like you, wish that there was some news to liven our spirits, or a confirmed sighting to bring hope. There has simply been nothing that has been confirmed where Law Enforcement has contacted us and shown video, or pictures, etc showing us that my brother and his family are ok.

My friend who has been to Mexico three times already trying to support our family in the search, contacts me once a week or so just to stay in touch. He himself has been following up on some of his own leads trying to rule things out.

So, we push on.

Thanks to my mom, there will be full page articles of the Missing Persons Flyer (Download from our site) published in the Baja Times, their sister company Eco, and another paper the Gringo Gazette. These articles will run for a few weeks and be distributed from San Ysidro, TJ, all the way to Cabo San Lucas. They will go out to the general public, hotels, businesses, pharmacies, insurance companies all throughout the Baja Peninsula.

We have a confirmation of the America’s Most Wanted to be aired June 19th as well.

The San Diego SD are really hopeful that these two venues will generate some leads for them to help track down our family.

A couple of weeks ago we did a bunch of taping for a segment that will air sometime mid June on America’s Most Wanted. Lt. Brugos, Dugal, Martinez were all there representing San Diego Sheriff Department, as were both sides of the family of Joey & Summer.

Lead Detective Dugal has two huge case files on my family and showed us pictures and evidence that was previously not available to us. I will say that I’m impressed with their efforts.

While at the taping on that Thursday, they did find out from the lab that the map did NOT come up with Joey & Summer’s fingerprints. Dugal did say that they would send them back for one more re-test to be sure.

There are a few other possible sightings in Baja, but are unconfirmed and to this point nothing is substantial. Some people questioned by the Mexican police in conjunction with the FBI, gave the same testimony that they did to our friend who has been down in Baja three times now and is responsible for generating these leads. I am told a few others gave conflicting stories. I suppose that in some cases people in Mexico really don’t want to talk to the local police and will say whatever it takes to send them away because they simply don’t trust them. I was informed that one person was told by one of the officer’s in Guerrera Negro that the only reason they were there asking questions, was because the American Consulate was pressuring them. They came into town commando style, canvased about a city block, and were gone in a few hours.

My question is this:

How can a family of four simply fall of the face of the earth? Just disappear so that three government agencies are not capable of locating them?

An interesting point that one of the Detectives made was that while watching the border crossing from Mexico back into the United States was that the guards seem to ask for ID only one out of every four or five people that pass through. Is it possible for Joey & Summer to walk back over the border and the guards would just wave them through? Joey has the only passport, but both have a California Driver’s License. It kinda made it easier to focus on Mexico because of the evidence up to this point, no passports, baja peninsula is small, travel was cumbersome because of the small children, etc. This point of the crossing guards shattered that and opened up the globe again.

Hopefully the America’s Most Wanted segment will help to break this case open so we can all get some closure to this thing. It has been almost been four months.

Three months later and a possible sighting in Baja.

A waiter says he waited on the family back in late February or early March, and they left behind a map. He said Joey looked ill and stressed out, and he wondered how the little one hit his head. (Chubba’s birthmark) He was kind enough to put it in a bag and save it for some reason. We gave it to the FBI. Now that they have it, were hoping that since both Joey & Summer have their realtor’s licenses and were fingerprinted that something will come from it. I believe that the Sheriff’s Department will be running it for prints.

This brings a ray of hope.

April 2nd was the day the FBI was briefed on our case and we met with them on Monday April 5th the day after Easter, and still we are waiting. That’s the hardest part, the waiting.

SC Times puts out an article a week or so ago, 4 errors and inaccuracies. I got tons of emails for clarifications and it simply adds to the frustration. I have been receiving lots of emails for updates, and there just aren’t any. No sightings, no videotapes, no nothing.

The detectives are still on the case north of the border, as the FBI is handling south of the border. I will go to Mexico myself if we get a credible lead, but at this time, there is nothing to compel me other than these beautiful faces on the website. For them, I would do anything.

I am shocked that two weeks went by like a blink of the eye. We all miss Joey, Summer and the boys terribly. I just miss my every Friday talks as Joey drives to Aliso Viejo for soccer. We talked about everything and nothing, but it was always good just to talk with my bro and hear his voice. Gianni’s birthday is coming up in a few months, and he’s turning the big – 5.

I know that this article isn’t much, but hopefully we will get some news that will help us all breath easier. Thanks everyone for caring.
